Reduce your food waste
This Food Waste Action week we want to help you to reduce the amount of food waste coming out of the UK. There are two important apps that can help us to do this.
Too Good to Go
Too Good to Go is an app available to anyone who wants to help reduce the food waste from local restaurants and shops. If there is food that is about to go out of date or is going to be thrown away at the end of the day, the shops can put this on the app for users to reserve.
Once you reserve a bag from a shop you are given a pick up time of usually a few hours. All you need to do is show up, show your order on your phone, and take your bag home! It’s as easy as that.
There are plenty of shops available on Too Good to Go in Southend, including Costa, Starbucks, BP, Morrisons, Toby Carvery, and Co-Op. You will usually get four to six items in a bag, but this will always change, most bags start at around £3.
Olio
Olio is a community-based app where users can list food that they would otherwise throw away, for their neighbours to pick up for free. To pick up items all you need to do is contact the seller to reserve and turn up at a mutually agreed upon time, most people will leave the items outside of their front door.
This is a great app to prevent food from being thrown away whilst it is still edible, there are even volunteers that will collect unsold food from shops to then redistribute on the app. There is also not only food available on Olio, but furniture, clothes, kitchenware, and more all for free!
Why not download these apps and explore what they have to offer? You may be surprised.
