Sustainability

South Essex Homes is committed to reducing our carbon footprint, especially by working with our contractors to deliver sustainability in their products and services. One of the ways we are doing this is by looking how South Essex Homes and contractors can upcycle materials that would normally go to landfill.

Houghton Building previously worked on our Balmoral estate for two years and deliveries of supplies come to the site on pallets. Throughout that time, SEH delivered the pallets to two community groups, who also started to reuse empty water tanks donated by Houghton Building...

Mendip Community Action Group with ATF

SEH staff and ATF are working together to bring the community garden back to life again!

We are working with residents to help with the design of a picnic area. We will use the pallets to make planters for vegetables and flowers. This will give residents fresh vegetables which they can pick and eat as they grow throughout the year. The old water tanks donated will also be great use for keen gardeners.

The larger pallets will be used to build benches, for seating areas and pergola for cool space. We are also hoping to build a small shed where residents can make tea and coffee and enjoy light refreshments.

Community gardens encourage residents to get together, help with keeping us physically active and establish stronger ties to where we live. SEH are committed to working with residents to create and share in the maintenance and products of the community. Community garden logo
